Silk waste is a by-product of silk reeling and spinning production: cocoon shells (defective and damaged cocoons), silk wadding (entangled fiber from outer and inner layers of the cocoon), noils (short silk clippings after carding), and tangled waste. Applications: production of silk yarn (from bourrette silk — coarse, matte), filling for blankets and pillows (silk wadding — hypoallergenic, thermoregulating), production of silk paper, cosmetic ingredients (fibroin and sericin).
